A native Texan, Laurie Champion received her Ph.D. from University of North Texas in 1994, then taught at Sul Ross State University, in Alpine, Texas, before moving to San Diego, where she currently teaches English at San Diego State University. She has edited or co-edited ten books, including Texas 5 X 5: Twenty-Five Stories by Five Texas Writers, Texas Told’em: Gambling Stories, American Women Writers, 1900-1945: A Bio-Bibliographical Critical Sourcebook, Texas Short Stories II, and Contemporary American Women Fiction Writers: An A-to-Z Guide. Additionally, she has published over fifty scholarly essays in distinguished literary journals and books, and over a dozen of her short stories have appeared in magazines, journals, and anthologies.
