CafeLITERATI
formerly The English Club at San Diego State University
... reincarnated, 2005-2006!

new! We're famous!
new! We're starting a new lit/artsy journal! Satellite!

STARTING AGAIN January 24th 2005

On an SDSU campus and a College of Arts and Letters known more for its apathy, and, at times, a lack of social life, especially for those who are culturally inclined, comes something reborn:

CAFE LITERATI
        ( a café & a culture/lit/film/arts club)

CAFE LITERATI--fourth floor south patio of ADAMS HUMANITIES; good coffee for the "price" of a 50cent donation and you can hang out, read, chat, whatever, on a gorgeous patio in an ugly building--the "sculpture" in the middle of the patio doubles as a working satellite antenna.  come by tuesdays, wednesdays and thursdays between 9 & 2.

LAST EVENT  SPRING 2002

Saturday, April 27th is Dia de los Ninos in Mexico, and Cafe Literati is going to celebrate it in Tecate with our friends from Rancho San Juan Bosco.  I contacted Mr. Morelos, the director of the vocational home, and while a Mexican family is bringing hot-dogs and yummy pasteles to the celebration, we are responsible to provide salads and fruits.  Aren't we glad to be on the healthy side for once?! Our group will live San Diego around 8:30am and hopefully return for 6pm (no time guarantee on the border crossing). This excursion will be a nice opportunity to see SDSU's previous work at this site, and above all it will be great fun.  WANT TO HELP???? CONTACT ME ASAP albane@hotmail.com

post Spring Break
UPDATE

Welcome back!

I hope you enjoyed yourself and are ready for the post SB rush that is about to hit us all. I just wanted to let you know that one of our members will talk about the influences of  "The Catcher in the Rye" on modern culture @ our next meeting Wednesday April 10, 2002 at 1pm on the Patio of Adams Humanities closest to the Classics and Humanities offices. So, if you know some folks who are interested!

Before the end of the semester I want to gather a group of us to go plant a vegetable garden for our friends down in Rancho San Juan Bosco, Tecate.  I'm still working on the date, but it is most likely going to be for the end of April (either 3rd or 4th week end).  I will let you know the exact details asap.

The club will show "Cube" by the Canadian producer Vincenzo Natali on Thursday, April 18th in AH 4157 @ 7pm.  "Cube" is a SciFi film that came out in 1997.  Its subject?  What happens when strangers awake and are stuck in a maze?  They better put their brains together and see about getting out, but that's only a suggestion.

FEBRUARY 19 NEWSFLASH

Dear Literati Fellows, Friends, Guests, and "Wannabes",

We're still waiting for you at our weekly meetings, I know not everybody is showing up... But I didn't write to scold, so here are some cool club annoucements:

  • Cafe Literati presents "Like Water For Chocolate" by Alfonso Arau (1992). Come and enjoy the show this Thursday in AH 4157 @ 7pm.
  • Cafe Literati goes to the Getty Museum on Saturday February 23rd. The group will leave campus @ 8am, and will enjoy a late lunch in Santa Monica after visiting the museum.  Admission is free but there is a $5.00 parking fee for each car, so let's think about carpooling.  Check out www.getty.edu or contact me for more info.
  • Black History month is ending, and our campus is celebrating with "All God's Children," a documentary that will be showed on Monday February 25th @ 5pm in the Aztec Center.   -
  • And if you missed last week's production of the "Vagina Monologues," too bad, but don't worry because our Theatre Department is featuring an all new show.  "Anything Goes" starts this thursday, so hurry and buy tickets!

  •
I hope to see all your pretty faces soon and wish you all a wonderful week,

Albane Ariza
