After graduating from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with an MFA in creative writing, she began teaching in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University. At San Diego State, she has taught literature, creative writing, informal essay writing, and critical theory, with a focus on Shakespeare and twentieth and twenty-first century literature. She also taught at National City Adult School, working closely with students who were striving to read and write English. In 2010, she began working on her Ph.D. in English at the University of California, Irvine and is currently in her second year. In that time, she has earned her Master's degree in English. Her studies focus on drama and Early Modern Literature, especially the Tudor and early Stuart periods. In these studies, she analyzes polyvocal interventions into the acts of unscrupulous counselors.
